Who can see and edit a board
Every board has one visibility level, an owner, and a set of members — this page covers what each combination actually allows.
Visibility levels
- Private — only invited members can open it. This is the default for every new board.
- Link-shared — anyone with the link can view or edit, depending on the link's role. A share link can optionally require a password.
- Public — anyone with the URL can view. Public viewers never get edit access, regardless of the link role.
A visibility badge on the board header always shows the current level, so nobody has to guess whether a board they're looking at is actually private.
Roles
- Owner — full control, including changing visibility and deleting the board.
- Editor — can create, edit, and delete shapes, and manage the share dialog.
- Viewer — read-only. A viewer's canvas updates live but every write is rejected server-side, not just hidden in the UI.
Share links
Generated from the share dialog in the board header, a share link carries its own role (viewer or editor) independent of who's holding it. Adding a password means anyone opening the link has to enter it once before the board loads. Revoking a link disconnects everyone using it immediately — it isn't a "stop giving out new copies" setting.
Email invites
An owner or editor can invite a specific person by email instead of sharing a link. Invites are single-use and tied to that email address.
